Instructions to the teacher

There are two versions of this activity below. These can be done either as listening or reading activities. Optional: Use these texts for a listening activity and have students give verbal answers to questions about what they listened to. Keep the questions simple for the first year students, some yes or no questions and some short answer questions. They may answer in single words or in sentences.

“ Hi! I am Jane. I am from Orlando, Florida. I am a Junior at MSU. I am studying to be a journalist. I love Michigan and the beautiful weather we have. We have all 4 seasons in Michigan. It sometimes gets too cold in the winter. But I like snow a lot. In Florida, it is always hot or raining.”

“Hello! My name is Lizzy. I am a lecturer at MSU. I teach Spanish. Spanish is the fastest growing language in the USA. Learning Spanish will help my students in all fields of work. Languages are a fun way to learn about a different country and its culture.”
