Topic: Weather
Mode: Interpersonal
Level: Novice
Students will describe activities that are appropriate to do in different weather conditions.
Components of the activity: Weather cards
Instructions to the teacher
Prepare and print out the following weather cards (cards with different weather descriptions are as follows: hot, cloudy and humid; hot and sunny; cold and rainy; it’s snowing; warm and gentle rain; cool and sunny; cold and sunny with fresh snow; warm and downpour; etc.). Have enough copies so that each pair of students receives a set of the cards.
Pair students up.
Explain to them that they will turn over one card at a time. As they turn over each card, they should think of an activity that can be done in that weather, clothing that should be worn or what additional items are needed (e.g.,sunscreen). Then they should write a sentence and share it with their partner.
For Example
Card: hot, cloudy and humid.
Activity: watch a movie in a movie theater
Sentence: On a hot and humid day, it’s nice to watch a movie in a cool movie theater. You can wear a light dress and open shoes.
Instructions to students
In pairs take turns flipping over the cards with weather descriptions and brainstorm activities that can be done in this weather and what additional items may be needed (e.g., sunscreen, umbrella and etc.). For your convenience, you can write your sentence down. Then share it with a partner.
