Instructions to the teacher

Have your students discuss the following questions about the appropriate response to emotions in various cultures. They can work in pairs or small groups, then share as a class.

Questions

  1. When someone dies in your country how do you express condolences?
  2. When someone gets married or has a child how do you congratulate them in your culture?
  3. Is it considered appropriate to ask someone why they are happy or sad?
  4. Is it OK to show emotions at work?
  5. How do you congratulate someone who is older than you? Is it different when the person is younger than you?
