Students will record a message explaining why they are late for a party.

Components of this activity: A scenario.

Instructions to the teacher:

  • Ask students to read the scenario first.
  • Then, ask students to leave a message for Mario explaining why they will be late for his party. They can mention which engagement came up, the time that it would be over, and the time when they expect to arrive at the party.

Instruction to students:

In your recorded message, include the following information: (a) your name, (b) your reasons for being late, and (c) when you are able to join the party. This could be an opportunity for students to practice the appropriate future tense.

Scenario: You are invited to your friend Mario’s birthday party. The party starts at 5:30 pm today (Friday). However, you will be 45 minutes late.
