Instructions to the teacher

  1. Record the scripts in the following exercise and save them as audio files.
  2. Play the audio files in class and ask students to select the right answer for each description.

Scripts

  1. Please excuse the interruption. We have a child who has become separated from their parent in our store office. Please check that you know where your children are.
  2. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning. 6-8 inches of snow has fallen and heavy snowfall continues to cause delays and accidents on local roads. Please be advised to stay at home.
  3. There is a tornado watch for our area until 11:00 p.m. During a tornado, extremely high winds can cause serious damage to buildings. Take shelter in a secure building or basement. It’s important to stay indoors to avoid being struck by flying or falling objects.
  4. The local weather forecast for today is calling for extreme heat. People and animals are advised to stay indoors and drink plenty of fluids. Take care to limit outdoor physical activity and seek shelter in cool or air-conditioned places such as basements, the mall, a library or a community shelter.
  5. Emergency management is reporting flash flooding in our county. Everyone should stay at home due to heavily flooded roads. Seven to ten inches of rain have fallen and more rain is expected.
  6. There is a fog advisory this morning until 11:00 a.m. Visibility is significantly reduced. Stay off the roads if possible, and take caution while driving.
  7. A storm system is moving into our area bringing with it severe thunderstorms and rainfall. Seek shelter and stay off the roads.
  8. There has been a multi-car accident on Highway 31 between Appletown and Smithville. Emergency personnel are at the scene and have closed off the highway except for one lane of traffic. Be advised of slow-moving traffic and avoid this stretch of highway if possible.
  9. There have been multiple reports of UFO sightings close to the airport. Residents are advised to stay away from the location of the sightings until authorities have determined that the area is safe.
