Either make a recording of the following sentences in advance or read them aloud to the class at a relatively normal pace. Make a multiple choice worksheet like this one. Below, the correct answers appear in bold.
Script
- Hi, how’s it going? I’m trying to get a hold of your roommate and can’t reach him on his phone. Is he home by any chance?
- I remember that you are studying with John today. Can I talk to him for a minute?
- We’re planning a party on Saturday and were wondering if you’re free to come.
- I need to ask a favor. I’m really busy this afternoon and don’t have time to call the car repair shop to ask if my car is done. Could you call them for me?
- I’m calling to say I won’t be able to meet for lunch tomorrow after all. I’m sorry about that and am wondering if you have time for lunch on another day.
