Listen for the Order

Topic: Transportation

Mode: Interpretive

Level: Novice

Students will listen to the recording and number the pictures of modes of transportation in the order that they hear them.

Components of this activity: Script, photos, ordering worksheet

Instructions to the Teacher

In advance, make a recording of the following script in the target language. Make sure students understand the directions, and then play the recording once. Play a second time if necessary.

After the listening activity, you could expand this into a larger vocabulary activity. Either play the recording a third time and ask students to write down any words they don’t know, or hand out the script and ask students to underline 3-5 new words that they want to know the definition of.

The photos below are already ordered correctly. They should be shuffled before distributing them to students.

Script

My family and I are going on a vacation to (name of place in your country.) We have already booked the plane tickets because traveling by plane is the most convenient and fastest mode of transport. When we reach the airport, we’re gonna hire a car to travel to the city center and leave the luggage at the hotel. Then we’re walking to the park near the hotel to rent bikes to ride around the park. On the second day, we’re taking the metro to a town in the suburb where we are going to meet our friends and stay at their house for the whole day. They have horses, so we will get to ride them around the countryside. We plan to take the train back to the city center because my husband likes reading books on the train. On the last day, we plan to take a taxi to the airport and board our plane back home.

Instructions to Students

Listen to the recording and number the pictures of transport in the order you hear them.  There are 2 more pictures that are not in the audio.
