Topic: Transportation
Mode: Presentational
Level: Intermediate
Students will use transportation vocabulary to write a story based on a series of pictures.
Components of this activity: Series of pictures for each student or group
Instructions to the teacher
Below, there are a series of pictures that tell the story of somebody’s trip to the airport. Along the way, the character encounters numerous difficulties.
Here, the pictures are organized chronologically. Mix them up when you distribute them to the students so that they first have to put the pictures in a logical order. However, you should not separate the picture pairs — for example the first two pictures under the heading “Waking Up” should stay together, etc.
Tell the students to use the images for inspiration to write the story of this person’s difficult trip to the airport. It is your choice if you would like to tell the students to write from a certain perspective (i.e. first or third person) or use a certain verb tense. You could also leave these choices up to the students. It depends on what your goal is for the activity.
Instructions to students
You have received a set of pictures. These pictures tell the story of someone’s very bad day at the airport. It is your job to put the pictures in order and then to write a story about what happened to this person.
Use all the vocabulary you know about transportation. If there are words you want to use but don’t know, you should use your resources to look them up. Take about 30 minutes to write the story. Be creative! This story should be exciting.
When you are finished, you will read your story to the class and listen to other groups’ stories. Then, the class will vote on whose story was the best!
