Competency: I can record a short passage about someone that includes several compliments.  

Students will listen to songs in the target language on YouTube and select one to win the Grammy (best performer award). They will then write and present a speech in which they complement the artist(s) for their work.  

Additional materials needed: 

  • links to  4-5 songs in the target language on YouTube 

Instructions to the teacher

Have the class listen to 4-5 songs in the target language on YouTube. Each student then chooses a favorite and writes an award speech to honor the artist’s work. The students should utilize several complements to explain why they have chosen this artist’s work. Once each student has written an awards speech, they should be presented to the class.  

Instructions to students

You will listen to 4-5 songs in X language on YouTube and choose one to win a “Grammy” award as the best artist. You will then write a speech to praise the winning performer. Make sure to list multiple reasons why you have chosen this artist. Once your speech is written, you will present it to the class.
