Excerpt: Students will role play making apologies
Instructions to the teacher:
Students will be working in pairs in this exercise. Each student in the pair should identify a recent event in which they had to make an apology to someone. They should clarify their relationship with the person (formal / informal, age difference, etc.) as it will influence how they formulate their apology in a culturally appropriate way. The pairs will then role play the situation with the first student making the apology and the second accepting it. They will then reverse roles and play out the other person’s scenario.
