Topic: Transportation
Mode: Interpersonal
Level: Novice
Students will use a worksheet to get information from peers about different transportation options for a trip.
Components of this activity: Enough worksheets with different destinations for each member of the class. An index card with a different starting and ending destination for each member of the class.
Instructions to the Teacher
Below, you will find a sample table of information about transportation from one city to another. Each table has a matching pair with missing information. You will need to make enough different tables for each of the students in your class. Make sure to vary the cities, types of transportation, and direction of travel (from A to B or from B to A).
Now, give each student a random departure/arrival card. Students must now circulate the room and talk to other students to find out who has the table that corresponds to their card. Once they find the right person, students must ask that person about the different transportation options and decide which one they will take. They must do this verbally without looking at each other’s tables.
Afterwards, call on students at random/ask for volunteers and ask them where they were going, how they are getting there, and why they chose that means of transportation.
Instructions to students
You and your partner are trying to go from one city to another. You will need to find the other person who is coming from and going to the same city. Go around the room and ask where they are traveling to until you find the person going to the same destination. Once you find your partner, fill out the table by asking “how much does xx ticket cost?” or “how long does it take to go by xx”? Don’t look at your partner’s table! Once your table is filled out, write your answers to the follow-up questions below.
